The Gender Programme

The gender programme of PPCD seeks to ensure that all segments of Chevron’s GMoU communities have equitable stake in the development process.  It does this by initiating programs to close existing gender gaps identified in the structures and programs of the various RDCs.  It uses training, mentoring, identification/use of gender focal persons, consultations with other experts; advocacy etc as working tools to mainstream gender in the RDCs structures and programmes. Specifically, the programme involves the following:

Training: Through Gender Mainstreaming training, RDCs and other stakeholders’ capacities are built for effective mainstreaming of gender in their programmes and structures

Mentoring: The programme also employs mentoring and handholding strategies towards getting the RDCs to practically inculcate gender mainstreaming principles in their approaches.

Identification /Collaboration with Gender Focal Persons (GFPs):  These are identified women at the community and RDC levels who work with PPCD to close the gender gaps through different activities. They meet quarterly to share experiences and adopt new approaches / strategies learned from each others’ experiences.

Consultation with other experts: The programme draws from the experiences of other experts working in 4 identified partner NGOs: New Nigeria Foundation, Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment (LITE-Africa) formerly known as `Niger Delta Professionals for Development (NIDPRODEV), Morgan Smart Development Foundation (MSDF) and Self Help and Rural Development Association (SHERDA). Representatives of these organisations constitute the Gender Sub- Committee. This committee supports the Program Officer (Gender) in the design and implementation of the gender component of PPCD programmes.
